DAFFODIL DAY OUTING COMBINED WITH AUCKLAND VETERAN AND VINTAGE CAR CLUB

HELD AT FO GUANG SHAN BUDDHIST TEMPLE, STANCOMBE RD FLAT BUSH ON SUNDAY 25TH AUGUST 2024

Gail and I made an early start on Sunday, morning arriving at the agreed meeting point close to Rainbow’s End at 8:00 am. We were soon joined by Ben, Kiri, Henry and Millie in their smart green saloon. Next was Dene in his red van, and then a very pleasant surprise when Colin and Pauline arrived in their red van. They had made the trip down from Kerikeri on Saturday. Great effort guys. Gail and I also had our green saloon, so we had two green saloons and two red vans. Cool.

Had a short run over to Flat Bush and met up with a good number of Auckland Veteran and Vintage Car Club vehicles at the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple. We were treated very well by them, and they made sure we had a prime position with our four vehicles together.

I don’t think any of us had been to the Temple previously. The site is huge, as are the Temple Buildings. The various
areas are all different and for Gail and I it was stunning. There were a large amount of Chinese people at the Temple, who were most welcoming. The Temple buildings have many rooms, most of which were open to view. The Buddhist religion seems to be very kind, calm and caring.

The Temple has their own café with a large choice of vegetarian meals at reasonable prices. It was very busy, so we
went to the outside cooking area which had lighter meals available. Gail and I enjoyed vegetable pancakes and mini
spring rolls. We are planning to go back soon to the cafe on a quieter weekday.

Lots of varied cars and motorbikes to view. Hopefully some photos in this mag will give you the picture. Ben, Kiri and family went for a ride around the block, on the Auckland Veteran and Vintage Car Club’s very old bus. The bus runs on solid rubber wheels and has open sides with no glass. The passengers on the required side would put their arms out to signal a turn. Good fun and lots of people were keen to have a ride.

The Cancer Society promotes the nationwide Daffodil Day and hopefully we all played our part in raising more funds.

Thanks to those who attended, I think we all had an enjoyable day.
