Vintage Warbirds – And Some Old Planes

On Saturday 22nd, the Auckland Morris Minor club gathered at Drury for a run to Ardmore aerodrome. Once everyone had arrived and purchased the necessary coffee, we set off on a very scenic back road tour through Ararimu and Hunua, then back to Ardmore via Clevedon.

Once at Ardmore, we had a tour of the New Zealand Warbirds hangars, where they have an interesting collection of vintage aircraft. It cost $20 for the guided tour, but you get a very close-up view of some fascinating old machinery and lots of good info from the expert guides.

Once the tour was over, we were due to line up the cars for a photo op with a Harvard (for an extra $15 fee). This took a while because the Harvard headed off for a flight! However, the weather stayed fine and we eventually got our photos, and then it was off to the nearby cafe for coffee and buns.
