Hamilton Car Museum and Glen Afton Railway
6:30 am, Sunday 2nd November: A dedicated group of Morris Minors and their enthusiastic owners gathered at the Bombay Caltex for a road trip to Hamilton.

The weather was lovely (a nice change after weeks of wind and rain). The turnout was great, and eight or nine shiny Minors headed south into the Waikato, where they immediately sank into the fog. Fortunately it had cleared after a few interesting miles on the motorway and through the back roads around Huntly. Everyone arrived safely at the Hamilton Car Museum, where we met up with a whole lot more Minors and several Morris Eights from the Waikato, as well as a bunch of other interesting classics from other marques.

The museum had a buffet breakfast available, and many members took the opportunity to look around the museum. They have some pretty expensive cars there, including a real Ford GT40 and the famous “Lycoming Special” race car.

At 10:30am, we set off in a convoy for a great drive up to Glen Afton, via the Raglan road and then north past Waingaro. The road is great and the scenery very nice. There were a few mis-turns but everyone eventually made it to Glen Afton historic railway for lunch and a ride on the old steam train. A great adventure!
